Have No Fear? Written By Nutriwonders We trust medical physicians and drug companies. Do we not? We have seen testimonial news items on television and in the newspapers relating how someone’s life is now being saved due to the doctors and the medicines. Well, one doctor, Julian Whitaker, M.D. is very concerned about the placement of that trust. He is a well-known cardiologist. He is known more especially to the FDA (Federal Drug Administration). Dr. Whitaker has championed the need for you to know the well researched medical facts about what actually prevents disease, and about what drugs actually cause other than relieving illnesses. He has had a running battle with the FDA, the agency of the United States Government that must approve all prescription drugs before they can be used to treat disease. Now he is “filing a Citizen Petition with the FDA to ask that a warning be placed on all statin drugs describing the predictable consequences of statin-induced CoQ10 deficiencies—and how to avoid them”, according to his own words in an article he wrote in his latest newsletter HEALTH AND HEALING. It is true that, as he states, the information he is using in the petition is “old news” which the makers of the statin drugs already know, i.e. that statin drugs deplete the body of CoQ10. Dr. Whitaker points out that the pharmaceutical giant, Merck & Co., which brought out the first statin drug, Mervacor, received a patent in 1987 for CoQ10 which describes the role of CoQ10 as a preventive and treatment for the drug’s side effects. Unfortunately, the Physicians Desk Reference, the drug Bible of the medical profession does not describe CoQ10’s role in this way. Dr. Whitaker believes that had physicians known about the true role of CoQ10 that we would not be in the midst of an epidemic of congestive heart failure. 400,000 new cases of congestive heart failure are diagnosed every year. The incidence of this condition has doubled over the last twelve years. According to Dr. Whitaker, the increase has experts “scratching their heads.” They don’t see the connection between the use of statin drugs and the increase in the incidences of congestive heart failure. Half of the 4.8 million Americans who currently have this condition will die within 5 years. Here is the problem: A primary cause of congestive heart failure is cardiomyopathy, or damage to the heart muscle. A primary cause of cardiomyopathy is CoQ10 deficiency, which statin drugs are known to cause. Dr. Whitaker makes it clear that the “unexplained” increase in heart failure “coincides precisely with the accelerated use of statin drugs over the past decade.” Dr. Whitaker’s Petition is asking the FDA to include a warning label on all statin drugs. It will indicate that since these statin drugs cause a deficiency of CoQ10 and such a deficiency is associated with impairment of myocardial function, with liver dysfunction, and myopathies of the heart and other muscles that all patients should be advised to take 100 to 200 mg per day of supplemental coenzyme Q10. By the way, dear reader, notwithstanding what your physician may tell you, eating a “balanced diet” will not overcome the deficiency in CoQ10 caused by the use of statin drugs. Nor, is it true that most supplemental CoQ10 cannot be absorbed. CoQ10 must be taken with a fatty meal. We suggest virgin olive oil or flax oil. CoQ10 is oil soluble. The presence of oil in the intestine is necessary for CoQ10's absorption. Good Health! Related Products: |
