Miracle Drugs: 5- H T P And Co Q10 Written By Nutriwonders As we are very much interested in the relief of certain types of neuropathology (nerve diseases) anything that has to do with the nervous system which can be relieved through the use of food and vitamin supplements always holds our interest. That continuing interest has been shared by many others. As a result, we now have "miracle drugs" which are actually either food in concentrated form which in turn supply essential nutrients and stimulate the production of necessary chemicals in the body, or they are the chemicals themselves which our bodies would produce; but because of age or other reasons, cannot. Of the first variety, 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is the intermediate metabolite of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan. It is called an essential amino acid because it is absolutely necessary to the functioning of the human body, and it cannot be synthesized by the human body from other nutrients. L-tryptophan is found in most protein foods, especaially in animal protein foods. It is used to make serotonin which is implicated in the regulation of sleep, depression, anxiety, aggression, appetite, temperature, sexual behavior, and pain sensation. It is a neurotransmitter. It is also a hormone and is targeted for preservation by the famous anti-anxiety drugs Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft. These three drugs prevent the destruction, or reuptake, of serotonin. Hence the continued circulation of serotonin is thought to be the reason for the anxiety relieving effect of those drugs. Well, according to "The Alternative Medicine Review" 5-HTP "easily crosses the blood brain barrier and effectively increases central nervous system synthesis of serotonin...Therapeutic administration of 5-HTP has been shown to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions, including depression, fibromyalgia, binge eating associated with obesity, chronic headaches, and insomnia." This substance appears to be superior to Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft without the well known potentially dangerous side effects. The next miracle drug is one which the body manufactures; but, for some reason or other, not enough is produced to protect he patient from the conditions which arise because of its lack. It is known as ubiquinone or Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10. According to Chemical Pathology Pharmacology this enzyme is "indispensable for the bioenergetics of the myocardium" (muscles of the heart). The article goes on to say that "propranolol is frequently used to treat hypertension; in some patients, it depresses myocardial function as an adverse reaction. This side effect may be related to the inhibition by propranolol of CoQ10-enzymes of the myocardium." On the other hand. the same journal points out that after having administered Q10 to five patients having essential hypertension they noted "effects of Q10 on the reduction of systolic and diastolic blood pressures, increase in Q10 enzyme activity and reduction of Q10 deficiency...presumably due to improved bioenergetics through correction of a deficiency of Ql0". This miracle drug which the body produces and which can be supplemented also appears to improve physical performance in people with muscular dystrophy at only l00 mg per day for only three months. As well, when taken with vitamin B6, Q10 increases IgG and T4-lymphocytes to such an extent that the trials done with them are important for "AIDS, other infectious diseases, and on cancer." Since it is oil soluble, for best absorption take it with a tablespoon of virgin or double-virgin olive oil, or flax-oil. Best of Health! Related Products: |
